in my latest foray into the garden i made a discovery of something asleep in a nest in the garden. i noticed while clearing an area furthest from the gate. to start with i noticed the nest. to my surprise there was something asleep there. i saw a very small amount of movement like you get with one’s chest, expansion, contraction.
the nest is above head height and a little way into the tree. i tried to push my way in to see better but to no avail. i tried to photograph the snoozing creature and this was the best i could achieve.
this is the third nest i’ve found in the garden. the first was in the middle of the really large bush near the gate. i expect it to be quite old and not used for sometime as it well apart almost as soon as i found it. i was a little disappointed as it tumbled down the branches.
the second next found still remains and sits in the corner of the bird feeder. with the discovery of the nests i start to get a sense of how the garden has been undisturbed for long enough for these constructions to take place. my presence seemingly breaking the status quo for these residents past.
i continue to work clearing the garden and have started to imagine small sculptures displayed with a main feature work.
before i got too far, i need to talk to someone about what i found in the tree and ask the question, what do we do about the something asleep in the garden?
